It has been a couple of weeks now since we were all deluged with emails asking us to confirm whether or not we wanted to continue to receive content and stay on various newsletter lists. While I admit I read only a few of them, most organizations have now sent new, long privacy notices explaining what data they collect, why they collect it, how they use it, and how they share it.

By now you will know that the organizations sending those consent renewal requests were gearing to comply with the requirements of the European Commission’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which came into effect on May 25, 2018, replacing Europe’s 1995 Data Protection Directive after almost a decade of debate.
